The 2023 Council Meeting of the Silk Road Energy Alliance of Industry, Education and Research (SREA) was convened at Xi'an Shiyou University on Nov 17.

At the meeting, Chang Jiang, Party secretary of Xi'an Shiyou University, highlighted that the SREA serves as a global collaborative platform for energy education, fostering connecting among government entities, industry enterprises, and higher education institutions along the Silk Road.
He emphasized that this marked the first council meeting since the alliance's establishment. The meeting aimed to facilitate discussions among alliance members regarding the vision of energy education and the collective construction of a community fostering a shared future for the Belt and Road Initiative.
Zhang Mu, deputy Party secretary of the university, presented a congratulatory letter from Phinij Jarusombat, former Thai deputy prime minister, president of Thai-Chinese Cultural and Relationship Council, and honorary chairman of the SREA.
During the roundtable conference, representatives from Xi'an Shiyou University, China University of Petroleum (East China), and Hebei Petroleum University of Technology respectively delivered speeches on behalf of the members of the alliance.

Saeed ur Rehman Sarwar, vice president of National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, spoke on behalf of foreign institutions.
The meeting attendees elected the inaugural organizational structure of the alliance and engaged in in-depth discussions on the alliance's constitution, council organization, and future work plans.
The SREA was initiated and established by Xi'an Shiyou University in 2021, serving as a collaborative alliance with the involvement of domestic and foreign governmental agencies, universities, enterprises, and educational institutions, with 66 members.
