The 2022 "Embrace China, Tell a Story for You" Shaanxi "Oil Spirit" summer camp opened online at Xi'an Shiyou University – located in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – on June 26.
The summer camp is hosted by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and organized by the Shaanxi Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Xi'an Shiyou University.
Yu Jin, vice-chairman of the Shaanxi Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, gave a speech via video link. He said that the 2022 "Embrace China, Tell a Story for You" summer camp has become an online brand cultural activity for overseas Chinese and their children to learn Chinese characters and gain a deep understanding of Chinese culture.
Zhang Rongjun, vice-president of Xi'an Shiyou University, said the university has actively explored and applied new teaching forms such as online teaching, short video recordings and broadcasting courses, to ensure the smooth progress of the summer camp.
More than 200 people are participating in the summer camp. They are mainly overseas Chinese teenagers from the Huaxi Chinese School Bern in Switzerland and schools in other countries.
The camp includes courses on Shaanxi cuisine, Chinese calligraphy, national musical instruments and Chinese paper-cutting, among others. A livestreaming session that will explore the scientific side of the petroleum industry will also be organized.
The Shaanxi Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese will select five to seven outstanding campers after the summer camp ends, and present them with honorary certificates. They will be invited to participate in on-site activities in Xi'an after the COVID-19 pandemic is over.
The 2022 "Embrace China, Tell a Story for You" online summer camp is held once a month for 10 days each and the participants are overseas Chinese youths aged 6 to 18.
